Why National Cabinet agreement won’t slash your next power bill

4bc news

There’s warnings Australians shouldn’t expect immediate power price relief if an agreement is reached at National Cabinet today.

Households and businesses are likely to be compensated as part of a push to bring down the cost of electricity.

The deal is part of the federal government’s negotiations between NSW and Queensland to put a cap on the price of coal.

While the Grattan Institute’s Tony Wood expects some kind of agreement to come out of the meeting, it won’t impact your power bill for some time.

“I think the way this has been gradually creeping up, we will see a decision today of some sort today,” he said.

“This is not going to bring down prices by Christmas. Hopefully, it’ll avoid the bigger price increases that we might have seen around winter.”
