Brisbane retailers fail to find staff after months-long hiring campaigns

Retailers are struggling to fill job vacancies for the busy Christmas period despite the positions for months.

A low unemployment rate and lack of migrant workers are believed to be behind the worker shortage.

“Retailers across all categories are struggling to attract workers at this really busy time of year,”  National Retail Association chief executive Lindsay Carroll told Sofie Formica.

“Some retailers started their Christmas casual recruitment in July, which, in previous years, would’ve been completely unheard of.

“But those Christmas casual recruitment campaigns, for some businesses, are still going today, a couple of weeks out from Christmas.”
