How Moreton Bay plans to get ‘on the same platform’ as other councils
The Mayor of Moreton Bay is hopeful a bold application for the region to be reclassified as a city will be successful.
The council has filed a 244-page submission with the Electoral Commission of Queensland, arguing the regional allocation does not reflect the area’s booming population.
Because Moreton Bay does not have a single central business district like Brisbane or Ipswich, Mayor Peter Flannery is spruiking a ‘polycentric’ city proposal.
He told Sofie Formica the regional allocation is leaving Moreton Bay at a disadvantage.
“The opportunities I see there, moving forward, particularly with the Olympics and Paralympics coming, the opportunity for investment is huge.
“I think we need to be on the same platform as the other city councils in Queensland.
“We need to get our fair share of infrastructure and funding, we need to get our share of investment and private enterprise.”
