Russian missile strike reportedly hits Poland, kills two
Leaders from the G7 and NATO are holding an emergency roundtable after Russian missiles struck Polish territory, killing two.
Moscow had unleashed a torrent of attacks on Ukraine, targeting the country’s energy infrastructure and leaving millions without power.
Two Russian-made projectiles are hit a farm near Poland’s border with Ukraine around the same time as the Russian missile attack on western Ukraine.
The meeting included US President Joe Biden, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, French President Emmanuel Macron, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, Japanese Prime Minister Kishida Fumio, UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez, Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and European Council President Charles Michel.
Biden remained tight-lipped about information on the explosion when the group was briefly captured on camera at a meeting in Bali.
The director of defense, strategy, and national security program at the Australian Strategic Policy Institute, Michael Shoebridge, told 4BC Breakfast he doubts the strike was deliberate.
“Really, the question here is, is this deliberate, which I doubt, or is it just an example of Russia’s inability to target its weapons well?” he said.
“I do think the fact it’s so close to the Ukrainian border means this is probably done by mistake, was not a deliberate attack, but it does show the war can easily broaden.”

Poland’s foreign ministry has summoned the Russian ambassador to explain why the missiles fell on Polish territory killing two people, it said in a statement.
The department did not say who fired the missile and both sides in the conflict have used Russian-made munitions.
