Griffith MP unloads on Premier over secretive Olympic spending
The Premier is copping flak from all sides as she surges ahead with plans to demolish and rebuild the Gabba.
Annastacia Palaszczuk this week confirmed the billion-dollar project would be seen through, despite speculation funding troubles would see it fail to get off the ground.
The federal government has so far refused to agree to splitting the bill and has been cagey about sharing the details of any funding negotiations with the Queensland government.
A request by the Greens for correspondence and meetings minutes between federal Infrastructure Minister Catherine King and Ms Palaszczuk’s office was knocked back.
Ms King said production of such documents would “substantially impair or prejudice negotiations with the Queensland government in relation to this particular project”.
Griffith MP Max Chandler-Mather, whose electorate encompasses the Gabba, described the secretive nature of the negotiations as “completely disgraceful”.
“My question is then, what are they sitting on!?” he told Neil Breen. “What has occurred in this negotiation that could impair or prejudice it?
“I think there would be a lot of people who would like to know … how that $2.5 billion is going to be spent and what impacts it could have.”
