Fines skyrocket in crackdown on reckless e-scooter riders

Dean & Sofie

Tougher penalties for e-scooter riders doing the wrong thing will be rolled out across Queensland next month.

Reduced speed limits, increased fines and mandated bells on handlebars will be some of a few new regulations in the first wave of reforms.

There will also be hefty penalties, up to $1078 for riders caught using their phone and $431 for drink-driving.

Press PLAY below to hear who will enforce the new rules

The new regulations will come into effect from November 1 and will also apply to e-skateboards and other personal mobility devices.

More than 1800 people have been hospitalised from e-scooter accidents across Brisbane over the past 18 months.
