‘Remarkable scenes’ in UK as 60 million observe minute of silence
Quiet has fallen over the streets of Britain as millions pause for a minute of silence in memory of Queen Elizabeth II.
Busy streets drew to a standstill and Big Ben missed its chimes as more than 60 million people observed the “shared national moment of reflection”.
“We’ve seen such remarkable scenes over the past 10 days here and everything just falls into line, falls into process so beautifully well,” 9News reporter Dan Nolan told Spencer Howson.

King Charles has released a statement thanking those who have paid tribute to the Queen after the line to view Her Majesty lying-in-state closed.
“Over the last ten days, my wife and I have been so deeply touched by the many messages of condolence and support we have received from this country and across the world.
“In London, Edinburgh, Hillsborough and Cardiff we were moved beyond measure by everyone who took the trouble to come and pay their respects to the lifelong service of my dear mother, The late Queen.
“As we all prepare to say our last farewell, I wanted simply to take this opportunity to say thank you to all those countless people who have been such a support and comfort to my Family and myself in this time of grief.”
