A new report on Australia’s gambling spend has left Neil Breen “stunned”.

The Monash University report found Australians have lost $11.4 billion dollars to the pokies in a single year.

In Queensland, more than $2.7 billion was lost, making Queensland the second biggest spender.

Neil Breen said he found that statistic stunning.

Griffith University senior lecturer Dr Timo Dietrich said he predicts online gambling skyrocketed in lockdowns.

“It’s interesting at a time when you turn on the every day news we think people really are struggling, and there lots of people that are struggling,” he said on Brisbane Live.

In Brisbane the loss was $591 million.
