French President reportedly to visit Australia as nations patch up ties
Planning is reportedly underway for the French President to visit Australia as both nations make an effort to patch up diplomatic relations.
Communication fell apart when former prime minister Scott Morrison blindsided the European ally by scrapping a $90 billion submarine contract.
Officials have reportedly begun preparing for Emmanuel Macron to add Australia to the itinerary after the G20 Summit in November.
It comes as Deputy Prime Minister Richard Marles completes a visit to the French city of Brest to hold talks with his defence counterpart, Sébastien Lecornu.
He said it is critically important to “move forward” from the scrapped contract with honesty and transparency.
It echoed sentiments voiced by Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, who declared a “new start” in relations during a visit to Paris in July.
