Travellers returning from Bali say they’ve been surprised to find airport biosecurity measures are more lax than they expected.

The federal government last month rolled out foot mats, sniffer dogs and additional biosecurity officers at international airports in response to an outbreak of foot and mouth disease in Indonesia.

But Ray Hadley has heard reports the measures aren’t as stringent as some would expect.

“There was no dogs anywhere or any additional screening whatsoever,” listener Matt told Ray.

“Considering the fact I’d … been in Bali, I’d presumed that I’d be sort of talked to more thoroughly and had my … stuff inspected further.

“I just thought to myself, ‘This is process is redundant’.”
