What to expect as parliament returns tomorrow

neil breen

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has told his Labor party colleagues there’s not a day to waste as parliament resumes tomorrow.

The Governor General will open the 47th parliament tomorrow, as Labor moves to the Government benches.

18 pieces of legislation will initially be considered, on issues like climate change and aged care.

4BC federal political editor Michael Pachi says Mr Albanese wants to get moving.

“When Anthony Albanese addressed the party room about an hour ago, he was talking about not wanting to waste a day and that he wants a government that gets things done,” he told Neil Breen on Brisbane Live.

But he said foot and mouth disease and the worsening COVID-19 crisis are the major issues that are closer to home for Australians that will need to be addressed.

“I personally believe what we are going to see over the next couple of days, and into next week is a lot more focus on those sorts of issues, issues that are affecting people now, foot and mouth, speaking to cattle farmers and COVD, I think those are the sorts of issues the new government is going to have to address.”

He said there is talk around Canberra that Scott Morrison will resign soon, prompting a by-election in his seat.
