Mayor’s pay rise marks ‘time to put the broom through’ local councils

4BC Drive

Peter Fegan is pushing for a review into local councils after hearing reports the Redlands Mayor will today receive a pay rise.

Karen Williams has admitted to having “several glasses of wine” before driving her car through Cleveland, where she crashed into a tree last week.

The mayor had been on a video meeting earlier in the evening with families who had lost loves ones to drink drivers.

Peter says the boost to Ms Williams’ pay packet marks time to “put the broom through” local councils.

“What on earth do councillors do?” he asked. “I can safely say, in all my years of living in this great city, I have never met my local councillor.

“If councillors that represent us think it’s a good idea to promote a convicted sex offender, or think having a drink and jumping in the car … then what hope to we have?

“I think it’s time Deputy Premier Steven Miles, who is also the Minister for Local Government, should order a review into local councils and how they are spending taxpayer money.”
