Younger Queenslanders will be able to apply for the state police force under recruitment changes announced today. 

The service has announced at an officer induction ceremony held this morning the applicant age minimum is set to be reduced to allow 17-year-olds.

QPS acting Assistant Commissioner Mark Kelly told Mark Levy, filling in for Ray Hadley, applicants will be able to start the process during Year 12.

“We really want to focus on young people that want to work on a team, help the community and want to work in an environment where the work’s different every day,” he said.

“This is about providing a pathway for people who are in Grade 12 to think about a career that’s both challenging and rewarding.”

The changes will come into effect from today, meaning current high school seniors can apply.
