New legislation passed through state parliament will outlaw the practice of “claim farming”.

Claim farmers sell claims onto lawyers, having pressured the person involved into making a personal injury or workers compensation claim.

Attorney-General Shannon Fentiman said claim farmers harass Queenslanders when they’re at the most vulnerable.

“They’re really sophisticated Neil,” Ms Fentinman said on 4BC Breakfast.

“They’ll go through and find people in emergency wards, they’ll pay to get information about accidents, they’ll pay to get information … from insurers.

“They’ll read about claims … in the paper, and they go hunting.

“It is big business.”
