The Queensland Australian Medical Association (AMAQ) say they are “happy” with the state budget, but add the spend is just matching inflation over the next 12 months.

They also called for greater collaboration between health stakeholders.

The state government will spend a record $23.6 billion on the sector, including plans to build three new hospitals in Bundaberg, Toowoomba and Coomera.

However AMAQ Queensland President Maria Boulton says while they acknowledge the record spend, it still doesn’t go far enough.

“It is really just only keeping pace with inflation,” Ms Boulton said on 4BC Drive

“We are excited about the promise of beds over the next six years, but bearing in mind that some of those beds won’t be a reality until 2028.

“… so while we’re excited about those plans over the next 12 months there’s only been a very mild increase in spending.”
