It’s been a noticeably chilly start to June for parts of south-east Queensland and particularly Brisbane.

There are reports it’s been the coldest start to winter in 100 years.

While south-east Queenslanders are being told to brace for colder than average June temperatures, the cold front might not be record-breaking, yet.

Meteorologist Kimba Wong from the Bureau of Meteorology says it doesn’t appear any records have been broken over the last few days in Queensland.

“I think there have been some claims that it might have been the coldest start for Brisbane in over a century,” she told Scott Emerson.

“But just looking at some of our records here, Brisbane’s maximum temperature was 16.9 degrees and it looks like we had  slightly cooler day in 1985 in the first week of June, so I am not sure that is entirely correct claim.”
