‘We need to do what’s fair’: Treasurer defends flagged coal royalties rise

The Treasurer has flagged raising coal royalties ahead of a three-year freeze expiring later this month.
The Queensland Resources Council has voiced its “strenuous” opposition of the proposal, claiming it would risk future investment and short-change regional communities.
But Cameron Dick told Neil Breen while no final decisions have been made, the industry “can hardly complain”.
“A lot of the cost-of-living that people are paying, a lot of that cash is going straight into the bottom line of coal companies,” he said.
“We need to help people with infrastructure and we need to fund cost-of-living relief.
“We’re just looking at something that’s fair but we haven’t made any final decisions.”
