What Elon Musk fails to realise with his strict return-to-work mandate
Elon Musk has made headlines today for his unwavering return-to-work mandate, demanding staff work in the office or go elsewhere.
In leaked memo it has been revealed the Tesla boss said anyone who wanted to work from home must be in the office for a minimum of 40 hours a week, or leave the company.
But the return-to-work mandate has been criticised as out of touch.
Career expert at LinkedIn, Cayla Dengate, says the number of job postings on their site offering remote work options has doubled since last year.
She says despite Musk’s views, many employers know they have to give prospective staff different opportunities, and they appreciate it’s a job seekers market.
“Everybody is talking about remote work at the moment, and one thing that we are seeing with our LinkedIn data, is that the companies that really want to get the best talent and retain their staff, are making sure there are remote options available.”
She says the jobs that offers work from home options gets 1.3 more applicants on their platform than others.
“It really shows there is an appetite for people wanting to have that flexibility.”
