National Nine News

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has unveiled his new ministry this evening.

Labor secured enough seats to govern in its own right, after retaining the Melbourne electorate of Macnamara.

The new ministers will be officially sworn in tomorrow.

Among the appointments were:

  • Richard Marles – Deputy Prime Minister, Defence Minister
  • Penny Wong – Foreign Affairs Minister
  • Katy Gallagher – Minister for Women
  • Jason Clare – Education Minister
  • Don Farrell – Deputy Senate leader, Minister for Trade
  • Dr Jim Chalmers – Treasurer
  • Tanya Plibersek – Minister for Environment and Water
  • Bill Shorten – Minister for NDIS, Government Services
  • Clare O’Neil – Home Affairs Minister
  • Murray Watt – Agriculture Minister
  • Anika Wells – Aged Care Minister
  • Chris Bowen – Minister for Climate Change

Mr Albanese says it’s the largest number of women to serve in the cabinet.

10 women will serve in the cabinet, 13 in the ministry.
