Karen Andrews responds to Liberal Party leadership speculation

Neil Breen

Outgoing Home Affairs Minister Karen Andrews has responded to speculation she is one of the contenders to take on the Liberal Party leadership.

Ms Andrews, who retained her seat on the Gold Coast in McPherson, says she is considering her options.

There is speculation Peter Dutton will have the support of the party, although Dan Tehan and Ms Andrews are also contenders in the leadership contest.

But Ms Andrews says she will consider her options, including to run as deputy leader.

“I am interested in what role would allow me to add the most value to my party and the members of my party as well, so I am going to consider my position over the next day or so,” Ms Andrews told Neil Breen.

She says the party “a lot of work to do” to make sure they represent the views of women in the years ahead.
