War of words erupts over Coomera Connector cash

There’s been a war of words between the state and federal governments over the Coomera Connector project, tipped as Queensland’s biggest and most costly road project.

The Coomera Connector will be crucial to ease congestion on the M1 down to the Gold Coast.

The Federal government says there are delays to the project due to the Palaszczuk Government not claiming its share of more than $70 million in funding from Canberra.

But Queensland’s Transport and Main Roads Minister Mark Bailey rejected the federal government’s version of events over the funding clash.

“We’ve stepped in to the bridge and brought forward $100 million to make sure there isn’t a delay, the problem here is that we wrote to Barnaby Joyce’s department on 15 November to lock own the delivery deed to bring the federal contribution into the mix so that the project could continue,” he told Scott Emerson.

“We have been trying all the way up to the caretaker stage in April to get them to release the funds,  and they didn’t.

“So it’s been very disappointing to see the federal LNP let down all the Gold Coast residents by not keeping up their end of the bargain.”
