Heavy rain on the way for parts of QLD

Scott Emerson

Queenslanders are being warned to brace for “incredibly heavy rain” next week, with predictions some areas could see the highest amounts of rainfall in May on record.

Senior meteorologist from the Bureau of Meteorology, Felim Hannify, says some areas could cop up to 400mm of rain.

“We’re looking at some pretty sizeable totals through parts of the central anterior right the way to the central coast and up towards the east coast, and that looks like the bulls eye stretch if you want to call it, for those potentially pretty sizeable totals,” he told Scott Emerson.

“You’re talking broadly 5-100mm maybe a 3 or 4 day period through much of the anterior, and 200mm throughout parts of the central anterior and then parts of the central coast, down to the Capricornia and Innisfail, a lot of heavier than that you could see falls 200-300mm over a 4-day period.

“The issue here is that the system is likely to be pretty slow moving.”
