Queensland responds to ‘cash splash’ federal budget projects

Scott Emerson

Queensland Treasurer Cameron Dick has aired some grievances about the huge cash splash for rail and road infrastructure being pledged for Brisbane.

A number of projects have already been announced by the federal government ahead of the budget being handed down, including a $3.9 billion investment to be spent in Brisbane.

That includes a $1.6 billion commitment for the Brisbane to Sunshine Coast rail extension project.

“We welcome infrastructure in Queensland, we are the fastest growing state in the country and a growing state deserves a bigger piece of the infrastructure pie,” Mr Dick told Scott Emerson.

“The concern we have is that the funding won’t be enough to do the project.

“The advice from Treasury to me is that the federal government is well short of what they need, exactly how far short, we don’t know, that’s why we need a detailed business case.”

He says Scott Morrison was “doing a cash splash” to save himself on the eve of the election.

He urged the federal government to do their homework and present the business case for those projects.
