What Russia could be plotting next in Ukraine

Scott Emerson

As the conflict in Ukraine stretches into its second month, there are predictions Russia’s invasion in Ukraine will drag on for some time.

Executive director at the Australian Strategic Policy Institute, Peter Jennings, says it was without question one of Europe’s worst conflicts since World War II.

“My sense, Scott, is that it’s got a fair way to run yet, there’s an awful lot of Russian military power in Ukraine and able to move into Ukraine,” he told Scott Emerson.

“I think it sounds like the Russian high command has given up on the idea of taking over the capital, the Ukrainians have fought that off.

“But now what Russia will do is turn its mind to how much of the eastern parts of Ukraine can it take by force.

“To me that suggests we are going to see military operations continuing for quite some time yet.”
