The lucrative tourism market in Queensland’s sights

There are grand plans to tap into the lucrative tourism market in the US and develop better connections between major airports and Queensland.
Qantas and Air Canada will connect Queensland to cities like Los Angeles, and Brisbane Airport is backing a plan to market the Sunshine State across the USA.
Executive general manager of communications and public affairs at Brisbane Airport, Rachel Crowley, says there’s a lot of prospect there and a lot of optimism for what the US market can deliver for Queensland.
“Prior to the pandemic it was ranked at about number three for visitors into Queensland but I think the focus is really shifting to that market and a couple of others because the new world of international tourism for Australia is for the foreseeable future, absent of China.
“And without that very large market, we really do need to look at those traditional markets, of Europe and the UK but particularly the US to fill the tourism coffers of the coming months and years.”
She says there’s a “heap of opportunity” for Queensland to attract US tourists, particularly with the conflict in Ukraine.
