Fresh warnings as ‘very dangerous’ conditions roll over Sunshine Coast

Gary Hardgrave & Carla Bignasca

Some ‘very dangerous’ thunderstorms have been detected near the Sunshine Coast amid the heavy rain.

The Bureau of Meteorology says intense rainfall that may lead to dangerous and life-threatening flash flooding is likely.

They will hit Conondale, Mapleton and the area west of Conondale around 6.45am.

Yandina and the ranges south of Jimna are expected to be impacted around 7.15am.

Weatherman Justin Noonan told Neil Breen there were some heavy falls overnight and it’s not expected to ease up.

QFES Chief Superintendent Brad Commens told Sofie Formica “it’s not a good time” to be on the roads.

“It’s extremely disappointing to see footage of motorists knowingly driving through floodwaters,” he said.

“That places them at risk, it also places our rescuers at risk when they have to go and retrieve them.”
