The long-lasting legacy of the Brisbane 2032 Games
The Queensland government is looking to establish Brisbane’s Olympic Games Legacy Committee, to help Brisbane become a tourist, cultural hub to draw tourists, business and more.
Demographer Bernard Salt said Queensland “only gets one shot” at it and it’s important to develop a long-lasting legacy.
“I think Brisbane should be looking at transportation infrastructure, certainly the Cross River Rail which is underway should be completed very soon, extending that perhaps other underground metro stations perhaps in the inner city and also further development of the airport,” he told Scott Emerson.
He said the city needs to be connected, mobile and fluid to get around.
But he said the most important aspect to creating a long lasting legacy is less tangible.
“I actually the most interesting, the most long lasting is in the soft cultural impacts if you like, an enhanced reputation as a community, as a state that can deliver major projects.”
He wants Brisbane to become a place to move to, to visit, to study in.
