Australia has won its first-ever Olympic medal in a sliding sport and it has one Queensland family over the moon.

Jaclyn Narracott slid into silver at Beijing yesterday, in what her family says is an unexpected finish.

“[It was] such a lovely surprise and such lovely reward for all the hard work she’s done throughout the 10 years she’s been sliding,” Jaclyn’s mum, Cheryl told Sofie Formica.

“We just hoped that she’d go and have a good time, have a good experience and at the end of the day that she’d come away happy with her performance.

“To see her sitting first after the first two heats, well we were blown away by it, to be honest.”
