Minister admits controversial religious legislation ‘problematic’

Gary Hardgrave

Home Affairs Minister Karen Andrews has admitted the federal government’s religious discrimination bill is “problematic” but will still support it.

The proposed legislation protects people of faith, and won’t discriminate against gay people working or studying in religious settings.

But schools would have the right to expel students who identify as transgender.

Ms Andrews told Neil Breen “it’s problematic, without a doubt”.

“But let me be clear, I’m supporting that legislation.”
