Boris Johnson apologises over Downing Street parties
The British Prime Minister is facing criticism after a report into a series of parts at Downing Street.
A report by senior civil servant Sue Grey looked at 16 parties breeching COVID-19 restrictions, 12 of which are now being investigated by police, including one at Boris Johnson’s own flat.
She found there were failures of leadership and judgement leading to an apology by the Prime Minister in parliament.
His words had a galvanising effect on some Tory MPs and his predecessor Theresa May who said he either didn’t understand the rules or didn’t think they applied to him.
Mr Johnson told parliament he “gets it and will fix it”.
“We asked people across this country to make the most extraordinary sacrifices, not to meet loved ones, not to visit relatives before they die, and I understand the anger that they feel.”
UK correspondent Adam Gilchrist told Neil Breen was “cornered”.
