Queensland’s Police Commissioner says “it was a great feeling” to take part in an announcement the state’s domestic border will come down. 

From 1am Saturday, January 15, border passes and negative tests will no longer be required to gain entry to the state.

It means officers who have been stationed at checkpoints will be allowed to return to regular duties.

Commissioner Katarina Carroll told Mark Levy the decision comes at a good time.

“I had an opportunity to speak to the Premier about it, you know, the pressures on the border and we have staff, like many organisations, who have COVID.

“I consulted with the CHO who agreed that it is down the east coast now, Omicron is in.

“It was a good, sensible decision.”
