Police have been called to a medical centre on the Gold Coast where a woman has a gunshot wound to her arm.

A 29-year-old woman has been taken to hospital.

Police say she went to the Southport Health Precinct for an appointment, telling staff a man shot her when she was in the stairwell.

The centre was locked down for half an hour.

Police are still hunting for the man.

A search is underway for a backpack, that may contain the gun.

Nine News reporter Maegan Gillespie told Scott Emerson it’s understood the woman arrived with a man.

The exact circumstances are unclear.

“By the time she made it to staff, she had a wound to her arm, which is believed to be a bullet graze.”
