The owners of Dreamworld have launched legal action against an engineer who certified the Thunder River Rapids Ride was safe.

Tom Polley made the determination just a day before the ride malfunctioned and killed four people in 2016.

Ardent Leisure is now suing Mr Polley for negligence and breach of contract.

The claim reveals 15 affected Dreamworld staff received payouts of between $110,000 and $700,000 each.
