Health concerns for La Niña
Since the end of 2019, we’ve battled bushfires, fought floods and faced a global pandemic…now, there’s a new storm set to roll through.
The Bureau of Meteorology has declared a La Niña today, an event that only occurs every three to eight years, and reflects a major shift in weather partners. So, what are we bracing for now?
Northern and Eastern Australia can expect La Niña to bring cooler daytime temperatures and a wetter Spring and Summer season. Although this may have some Aussie farmers singing in the rain, changing conditions may result in extreme flooding, cyclones and large storm systems to emerge.
Dr. David King, senior lecturer at the Primary Care Unit at the University of Queensland, joins John Stanley to shed some light on the health concerns that can arise from such wild weather.
