Mitsubishi chasing a ten-year/200,000 new car warranty but still need to gain ACCC approval
Lifting the bar in consumer after-sales support Mitsubishi is reportedly about to introduce a 10-year/200,000km. factory warranty for all new vehicles sold here, doubling its current cover. However, the added cover is yet to receive approval from the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission as it’s new warranty would only apply if the owner services his or her car with one of Mitsubishi’s franchised dealers. The ACCC is set to make a decision on the application next month following an October 2 deadline for submissions. Warranties in recent years have been used to great effect as a marketing tool with Kia having enormous success in building its brand with new customers on the back of a seven-year/unlimited kilometre warranty. Kia’s marketing chief Damien Meredith has made no secret of the fact he would lift the bar on warranties as soon as another brand encroached on his turf. MG, SsangYong and Haval have in recent times introduced seven-year warranties to good effect.
