Toppling Kevin Rudd: 10 years on

Today marks the 10-year anniversary of the Labor party coup to topple Kevin Rudd.

Tom Switzer from the Centre for Independent Studies explains how a handful of powerful ALP factional chiefs gathered the necessary numbers in caucus to overthrow its leader Kevin Rudd.

Later that night, they put the knife in the hand of Rudd’s deputy Julia Gillard, who marched into his office to tell him that she would challenge the leader. It sparked a revolving door in Australian politics that many are still getting over.
