More than 2,000 young Queenslanders rolled up their sleeves at the weekend, to get a COVID-19 jab.

Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk is urging parents to consider getting their children vaccinated during the holidays.

Nine News reporter Tim Arvier says the Premier’s comments this morning focussed on getting school vaccination rates up, especially in the next couple of weeks.

“They’ve got 50 pop-up clinics right around the state hoping that kids, especially aged between 5-11 can go in and get those first and seconds jabs.”

He says there are concerns about the start of winter with the flu season starting.

Meanwhile, a second booster shot is now available to vulnerable Australians; people over the age of 65, those who are immunocompromised, indigenous Australians over 50 and those in aged and residential care.

More than 190,000 Australians are eligible for their fourth jab from today, that number is expected to grow to one million in May.
