Ukraine crisis: Warnings Russia is just ‘days away’ from military action
There are fears Russia is close to launching an invasion in Ukraine, with reports of 100,000 troops near the border in recent weeks.
In response Australia has relocated its embassy from Kiev to Lviv and advised Australians to leave Ukraine immediately while commercial flights are still available.
A number of other countries have also advised their citizens to leave.
Executive director at the Australian Strategic Policy Institute, Peter Jennings, predicted an escalation was days away.
“We are probably within 48-72 hours of some military action happening, Scott,” he told Scott Emerson.
“Putin still has a range of options open to him, from a full scale invasion through to things significantly short of that.
“But it seemsĀ to me the Americans are clearly operating on specific intelligence which says something is going to happen soon, probably this week.”
He said he believed the Biden administration was leaking intelligence information, in a strategy to try and disarm Russia.
