Australia’s most popular talkback presenter, Alan Jones, is a phenomenon.
Described by many as the nation’s greatest orator and motivational speaker, he has the mind and capacity to make complex issues understandable to the largest breakfast audience in Australia.
Alan’s broadcasting career began in 1985 when he was recruited to join Radio 2UE as their Mornings host. He moved to the Breakfast shift in 1988 and in 2001, Alan joined Radio 2GB, elevating the station to number 1 in the Sydney market. He has won more than 220 surveys, which is thought to be a world record.
Away from radio, Alan is a graduate of Queensland and Oxford Universities, with majors in English and French Language and Literature, Politics and Education. He has University Blues from both Queensland and Oxford in tennis.
He is a former speechwriter and senior adviser to then-prime minister Malcolm Fraser.
Alan was appointed as Wallabies coach in 1984 and coached Australia to 89 victories from 102 matches. In 1986, Alan coached the Wallabies to a now-famous Bledisloe Cup victory in New Zealand – the first time such a victory had been achieved in 38 years. He was also the coach of the Balmain Tigers and Director of Football for the South Sydney Rabbitohs.
Alan was appointed a Member of the General Division of the Order of Australia (AM) for services to Rugby Union Football in 1988 and was appointed an Officer of the Order of Australia (AO) in 2005, for service to the community, to the media, and to sports administration.
