Premier reveals details of independent review, Opposition hits out
The Premier has officially ordered an independent review into the culture and accountability of her government.
The announcement comes after numerous whistleblowers came forward with complaints, amounting in weeks of political pressure.
The probe will be headed by former QUT vice-chancellor Professor Peter Coaldrake AO over four months.
The review will have the power to make system-wide changes examining six key areas:
-
- The culture of the public service in ensuring ethical decision making and impartial advice to the Executive,
- The nature of interactions and interdependencies between integrity bodies, the public service and the Executive,
- Legislation underpinning the existing ethics and integrity framework,
- Adequacy of systems to prevent ethical, accountability and integrity issues arising,
- Adequacy of ethics training and communication and relevant policies, and
- Timeliness of processes to resolve ethical and integrity complaints.
An interim report will be provided in two months and the final reported is due in four months.
Both will be made public.
Opposition Leader David Crisafulli said he wouldn’t accept anything less than a Royal Commission.
He told Sofie Formica the review will barely scratch the surface.
“This review won’t give any whistleblower the protection to come forward and tell their story.
“[It] won’t hold any minister to account, … won’t get to the bottom of the Labor lobbyist culture that’s permeating this government
“And you want to know what it really won’t get to the bottom of? What’s on the laptop.”
