View the seven point plan
[Summarised from Budget Reply Speech - Hansard 19 June 2009]
A Queensland MP has proposed a plan that includes abolishing a tier of Government, fundamental reform of Queensland's taxation system and creating an AusVegas city. Member for Beaudesert, Aidan McLindon, presented to State Parliament an ambitious 7 point plan titled Constant and Progressive Reform (CPR) to provide a positive alternative to the current governing practices of Queensland.
Operation Decentralisation – this involves a drastic redistribution of the states finances to all services in rural and regional Queensland to strengthen and resource local communities.
Abolition of Local Government and Queensland’s current 73 Mayors will become inaugural members of an Upper House.
An ‘Aus Vegas’ City will be created with the freezing of pokie machines across the state while current pokie machine licenses will be transferred to, or become part shareholders, in the new international tourist destination.
Abolition of Payroll Tax and a 12 month small business assistance program for all new businesses.
Revolutionary Health System – the introduction of registered alternative and complimentary health services into the Queensland Health System with local boards directing funding resources.
Community Policy Formation Boards (CPFB) – Every State Electorate will have a community board co-chaired by the State Member and the Mayor that covers the majority of that Electorate. This Board will be made up of a peak representative from each industry and organisation for example emergency services, teachers, doctors, community service organisations, chamber of commerces, school chaplains etc, which will convene monthly.
Arts and Entertainment - Unprecedented financial injection into the Arts and Entertainment Industry to create a world class film and television industry, original music of all genres and the creative arts.
These idea ‘snapshots’ are a simple and direct brief of my vision for a new Queensland and I would be happy to expand on each of these. We cannot keep doing what we’ve always done or we will get what we have always got.
