Why the Queensland Cup is great
Are you heading out to see your local team play this weekend in the Queensland Cup? Well if you are, have a look around at all the people working at the ground. It is amazing how many people give up their time each week to help the club they love. Have a look at the can bar, the canteen, the gate; these people aren’t at the ground for the money. They are at the grounds to keep the game alive. These people are the lifeblood of rugby league. They are the lifeblood of the sport. Without them I’d hate to think where we would be.
kend.
Rugby League is the people’s game. It is a great game with great people involved.
Look around the competition. The clubs are full of people who have been involved in the game since they were juniors. People who give their heart and soul to the game and the club, names like Jim McLelland at Souths, Mark Murray at Norths, Jim Landy at the Jets, John Newton at Burleigh, Dr Roy Saunders also at the Jets, Des Webb from Redcliffe, Jon Sloan also at Reddy and plenty more.
Personally I’d like to make special mention of Len Conroy at the Tigers. Len is at every Tigers home game. He is a stalwart at the club. The Conroy family epitomise what the game is all about. Len and the others I mentioned along with the 100s of people involved at their club deserve our recognition.
Don’t forget to tell your friends about the Intrust Super Cup. It’s a great competition and a great day out. I look forward to seeing you at the football this wee

Well I've been watching the redcliffe dolphins at either the showground or dolphin oval for over 35 years and i yearn for the day when 4bc might broadcast some of intrust cup games as was the case 30 years ago. but i won't hold my breath as it won't happen in my lifetime. i now listen to 4kq of a weekend afternoon

I'd love to see a station like 4BC cover the QLD Cup. Local stations in Perth and Adelaide cover the local Aussie Rules comps', so I believe 4BC should do the same, especially when the finals start. Instead of listening to that Continuous Call garbage on a Saturday why not have a local sports show incorporating the QLD Cup match of the day, leading into the 5.30pm NRL call? Brisbane footy fans deserve better.

Peter I would go but my team the mighty Wests Panthers don't exist anymore however I am a regular watcher on the ABC. I am more inclined to go and watch the Normanby hounds

Great article Peter, the QRL is the life blood of the NRL so it should be promoted as that. Go along to any intrust game on the weekend and you can see so many players who have played NRL. And Redcliffe has supplied so many NRL players over the years, just a few years ago in state of origin there were 5 players who had come from the Dolphins. GO THE MIHGHTY DOLPHINS.

sad to see that 4BC are totally focused on the NRL. a fleeting mention is made from time to time on other codes but the station seems to have the single goal to promote the NRL. by all means support your game but at the end of the day your station will survive on ratings so try and give some of us a reason to stay with 4BC

That is the best article I have read in a long while regarding the Greatest Game of All. I love my local footy, but because of work commitments I can't always get out to Dolphin Oval and watch my boys run around. Would love 4BC to start calling local footy games again, particularly when the traditional BRL/Brisbane teams are playing. I will be going to Dolphin Oval this weekend to watch the mighty Fins crush the Tweed. Trev.
