Tiger – Money Well Spent
The attitude of some people absolutely astounds me.
I was shocked listening to the Peter Dick afternoon show when he took calls on Tiger Woods coming to Australia.
One person said he is a waste of money another had a go at him for 'only' playing golf with some bushfire victims. Listening to the tone of the calls I have no doubt that the major undertone for their objections are racial more than anything.
The 3 million dollar appearance fee for Tiger is chicken feed compared to what he brings to the Victorian economy. Sure Tiger doesn’t need the money. But he also doesn’t need to come to Australia either. I applaud him on coming to Australia on such a minimal fee. He could have asked for 10 or 15 million and the state would still be in front. Tiger has worked hard all his life to get where he is today and why should he give up his time for nothing just so the organisers of the Masters can profit off his name. I’ve got no problem with appearance money for athletes who have earned it and Tiger certainly fits that build.
I also applaud Tiger for playing golf with some bushfire victims. It will be a memory the 2 gentlemen concerned will have with them for the rest of their lives. Seasoned professionals say what a thrill it is to play with Tiger in a tournament. You cannot put a price on what these guys will experience. Does Tiger have to give up his time? No. Is he giving up his time? Yes, and when you are the world’s best sportsman that time is very valuable. So to the nark who phoned Peter this afternoon - Do us all a favour and go and move to the Simpson Desert and annoy the dirt and sand!
So as you can gather I’m all in favour of Tiger Woods coming to Australia to play in the Masters. But the attitude of some people who are against him coming scares me big time.
To all those flying to Melbourne this weekend have fun and if you only get a glimpse of the great man then make sure you cherish it for the rest of your life.

Well done Psalty could not agree more. Keith you have absolutely no idea about economy of scale my friend. You are right Tiger has not contributed one cent to our Economy - closer to about $20 million in hospitality, advertising, tourism and merchandise revenue in about four days. Keith - can you do that? Simpson desert beckons my friend.
