Swine flu

Posted by: Peter Psaltis | 9 June, 2009 - 11:26 AM

Nearly a week ago I attended origin 1 in Melbourne and came in contact with Ben Hannant. For those of you who don't know, Ben is now infected with Swine Flu.

I now can't believe that I have been told to stay home while my swabs are being tested. Give me a break. I did what I thought was the right thing yesterday when 4BC management and I thought we should notify my GP that I had contact with a swine flu sufferer.

What really annoys me is that others in my position have done nothing. This is what makes a mockery of the whole situation. I was told yesterday Qld Health would contact me....they never did! I had to call Qld health they said I would be called on Tuesday morning (as of 11:30 I haven't heard anything).

What I am going through is only minor. I'm not suffering from anything, I don't have swine flu and I'm currently in the situation where I have to wait from Qld Health to call me. Given their track record I could be waiting a while.

I have never seen such an over reaction to anything. Even if I do contract Swine Flu, it is no worse than the normal flu. It is an absolute joke. Now for doing the 'right thing' I'm being inconvenienced. I'm not wanting to sound selfish but please. Do we close schools or work places when someone suffers from the measles or Chicken Pox? The answer to that is - NO.

And for fellow announcers that say they are glad I'm not walking the corridors of 4BC or that I'm sitting at home feeling very nervous. Get a hold of yourselves. Stop trying to sensationalise what is going on. It's an over reaction.

One thing is for sure, I plan on being back on air tonight on Sports Today at 6.
