Support your team, good times or bad.
Do we really care about the teams we support? I do, but I wonder how many others do? You might be wondering, why am I asking this question? Well to be honest I’m fed up with people who are quick to sink the boot into their sporting teams when they go through a rough patch and for mine it happens way too often. I suppose I’m talking about fair-weathered fans
Now I’m a Liverpool supporter in the EPL and a Carlton supporter in the AFL. Liverpool hasn’t won the Premier League since 1990 and yet I still watch all their games in the middle of the night I treasure the good times and get just as frustrated as the manager after a loss.
Now with Carlton the past decade has been terrible. Wooden spoon after wooden spoon isn’t all that fun. But did I give up? Did I jump off to support a more successful team? No way in the world
Now I know the financial success of a club is determined on how many people turn up to a game and I know that not every person that turns up to a football match is a diehard supporter but my point here is that your team deserves your support during the tough times just as much as the good times.
My poor unfortunate relatives in Sydney are loyal season ticket holders for Parramatta. They continue to go year in year out to support the team. Yes they were there when Tulsen Tollett was playing first grade, they were there when most teams were treating games against the Eels as glorified training runs, and they were there when they charged to the 2001 Grand Final. They were there for the good times and the bad. My Cousin Chris was born in 1987, the year after the Eels last Premiership, and yet he still goes along. They represent what true supporters are.
Remember going through the tough times make the triumphant times even more rewarding.

Pete, very well said. We seem to live in an age where bandwagon jumping is the norm in supporting teams.
I travel to Liverpool, England twice each year for a total of around 4 months to follow the Red men through thick and thin. There are the dissapointments like September when I travelled to Florence to see the lads play poorly against Fiorentina though there are the good trips like being at the San Siro to witness Torres netting a winner in front of 80,000 Italians!
This year may not be the best year for LFC but when I board the plane next week for another 8 week stint following the Red men I will do so knowing that good times are ahead regardless of the result.

Well said cousin pete!!! As another parramatta season ticket holder since 1986, i loved the wooden spoon days of the early 1990's. Players like scotty mahon, stu galbreith, michael eriskson and matt goodwin.. EVERY now and then they would put in a sterling performance and beat high flying sides like the broncos.. thats what its all about..

Peter. Can't agree with you more. The reaction since the 56-0 loss has astounded me. For Broncos supporters to come out bagging in this way is disgraceful. It reminds me of the public and media reaction after the game 1 Qld loss of the 2006 Origin Series when people were calling for Darren to be sacked and that the Origin concept had had its day just because QLD had lost a few games. I've supported the Dragons for 40 years. In that time we won Premierships in 77 and 79. Played in five grand finals since then and LOST THEM ALL. I never ever considered bagging them or switching teams. Pump yourselves up Broncos supporters!!!!

Peter - I think your fogetting that your cousin Chris born in 1987 was actually a stinking Bulldogs supporter for a season! He does not deserve to be praised with true supporter loyalty status!

I remember the Warriors making a great charge in the finals last year. I hope the Broncos can do the same this year. If we can get into the eight and get all our veteran players over injuries, the Broncos will cause some big headaches... Oh for a match against the Saints...
