Never a dead rubber

Can the people calling Wednesday night’s Origin at ANZ Stadium a dead-rubber drop off! There is no such thing in Origin football. Sure the series has already been decided but each game means so much to the 34 players involved. It is still the highest standard of rugby league you will see. Two committed teams playing for pride, playing for their respective places in history.

Dare I say it a State of Origin game with the series decided still means more than 90% of the One Day Internationals our cricket team plays; It has more meaning than some of those one off test matches the Wallabies play against weakened teams from the Northern Hemisphere, come to think of it, the Wallabies should be used to playing dead rubbers against the All-Black by now! But we never hear a Bledisloe Cup game being referred to as a ‘dead rubber’ whenever the Kiwis have the cup in the bag 2 tests into a 4 test series!

Just on the game on Wednesday night I think the team that has won the series should host game 3. It is a disgrace that the game will be played in front of a half full stadium with most of the tickets being given away. The players deserve better. Play the game at Suncorp I say! At least the team trailing 2- nil could have the option to give up the home ground advantage but can still get most of the money generated from the clash, that way everybody is happy.

I am looking forward to Wednesday night’s game for a number of reasons. Seeing how the young Blues players step up to Origin football. Seeing the likes of Israel Folau, Greg Inglis and Billy Slater on the field once again. I’m also looking forward to hopefully seeing one of those magic moments that only tend to pop up in the arena that is - ORIGIN

  • Great game..for a Dead
    Rubber.The Blues really
    toook it to the"good
guys",but Qld won as Qld often do...in the last 4mins.
    So disappointing that The
    Blues"fans"walked out when
    Qld took the lead.Leaving
    the presentation to to made
in front of just a few
    thousand Qld supporters.
    So disrespectful not only
to Qld but to their own
players who had done such a good job in taking it
    up to Qld.When are these
    supporters going to"get it"
    How about Locky's field
    goal...47mtrs on the fly!

  • Yeah, Peter!
They should also play the NRL Grand Final outside of Sydney. If there's new management coming into the game, hopefully they'll be able to change some of the outdated thinking that's not in the best interest of the most important people - the players and the fans!
    Thanks,
    Chris

  • Hear hear Peter...it's not
a dead rubber but a chance
for the"good guys to get a
white wash or The Blues to
    get one back.I can't believe,
    or maybe I can,that people
    are trying to sell their
    tickets,on ebay,for the
    starting price of 0.99c and
worse still that the ARL is
    selling tickets for half
    price.Where's their pride.
    Where's their passion.If
they'd moved the game up here
it would have sold out in
    10mins.We have two games
up here next year and 100,000
tickets will be sold out within an 1hr.That's pride.
    That's passion.
With the exception of Trent Barrett this is the team I would have piced for The Blues...it won't win but
    they'll give it a go.
    QUEENSLANDER!!
