Hail 2 Modern Day Giants

petero

Throughout the generations Queensland has been blessed with many great footballers in the origin era. It started in the beginning with Wally Lewis, then Mal Meninga took up the mantle; throw in Langer, Lockyer, the Walters brothers and many others. Queensland fans have been spoiled with many great players. Today I want to talk about 2.

Also across the generations we’ve seen many combinations; Lewis and Langer, Langer and Walters, Lockyer and Thurston, Miles and Meninga and many more.

The time must now come celebrate the brilliant combination of Price and Civoneceva.

As we enter what is likely to be the final year of the combination (even though I wish it could go on forever) I don’t think these modern day gladiators have received the accolades they so richly deserve.

Price and Civoneceva have played 48 origin matches between them. For the past three series they have made metre after hard fought metre for their state. They are two gentlemen yet they are the fiercest of competitors.

When future generations look back through the history of origin, I’m sure they’ll look at the exploits of Price and Civoneceva the same way we look back at Lewis and Langer.

I wish them both every success for the upcoming series.

Thanks for everything Pricey and Petero!

  • It is hard to think of two better examples of what it means to be a Queenslander than these two gentlemen.

  • Finally someone has written about what I have thinking of for the last couple of years and as a pure bred Queenslander i couldn't agree more with salty that I wish they could play forever . Ambassadors of the game who are role models for every young person not just footballers . So happy I have had the chance to watch them.

  • As a hardcore NSW supporter i must take my hat off to these 2 gladiators as you so elegently put it Pete. They are a credit to their clubs, state and country and rugby league will be a lot worse for not having them around when the day arrives.

I salute you Pricey and Petero!!

I think it's gonna be a maroon-wash this year unfortunately.....
