Bring on the Grand Final

I must say I’m really looking forward to Sunday’s NRL Grand Final for a number of reasons. Both teams are full of fairytale stories. Both teams have had to overcome large injury tolls, patches of poor form and a couple of off field controversies. Both teams have skilful backs, powerful forwards and one team has Jarryd Hayne and the other has Billy Slater!

The clash of the 2 fullbacks will be worth the price of admission alone. I can’t wait to get their and see these two class players in action. You can expect the unexpected with both of them. They are the sort of players who get people through the gate. The NRL needs players like Billy and Jarryd and let’s hope they both bring their ‘A’ game to ANZ Stadium this Sunday.

I’m also looking forward to this years Grand Final for a number of other reasons. One of which is to see Storm bench player Ryan Tandy play in the biggest game of the year. Tandy was without a club midseason. He went to the Central Coast (Storm feeder team) just to play a few games; he has now played a major role off the bench in the Storm’s march through to Sunday’s decider.

Then you look at the Eels halves; Daniel Mortimer and Jeff Robson. Both have been amazing in recent weeks. Both were given a run when the Eels were battling for the wooden spoon. Now both are heading for the Grand Final. Mortimer and Robson have looked like seasoned veterans during the finals series and will need to be on their game once again this week when they go up against Cronk and Finch from the Storm.

I know the stars will get the headlines in the build up to the Grand Final but who at the start of the year thought the likes of Dane Nielson, Ryan Tandy, Aiden Tolman, Joel Reddy, Jeff Robson and Matthew Keating would play such crucial roles in the biggest game of the year. It’s the performances of the ‘no name’ players that have seen both Melbourne and Parra get through the final series.

For the record I am tipping Melbourne, although I wouldn’t mind if the Eels won. They have a fanatical and loyal group of supporters, of which I’m related to half, who have stuck true with the club during many lean years.

Tune into 4BC at 4pm (qld time) on Sunday afternoon for Ray Hadley’s call of this years decider. Trust me; you won’t be disappointed.

  • Hayne stops, so does the defence. And so begins the dance. Stop the Hayne Dance and you stop Parra !

Melbourne to win by 20 !
