Tradition?

dugong

How can it be OK for an Australian to get into a speedboat armed with a shotgun and shoot protected species like dugong and turtle just because of the colour of their skin? - Link here

There are some Australians who maintain traditional lifestyles, hunting with spears and other traditional implements as their forebears have done for thousands of years.   Fair enough.   But how can we allow other people to blast away at protected species just because they’re black?

There is no place in this country for racism.   These racist laws that have nothing to do with tradition are miles out of order.   It’s time the law applied equally to us all.

Blog comments Your Say

  • What can you say that has not been already said here, and I support many of these statements.

I was almost a founding member of Pauline Hanson's One Nation and was indeed the senior PHON MP later One Nation (for Lockyer 2001 2004 ( I am retired from politics and only mention this because I believe it supports my view that there is no place for real racism.) This is generally practised by those who always express there views in another way.

Bring on the lawful migrants, bring it all on, black white or whatever, just let us be equals in australia, practising whatever it is the is Australian. Keep up the good work Michael. Regards Bill

  • Regarding Carney Liddell,

I totally agree. I am also a 30 something year old female in a wheelchair and find Carney's insights into life wonderful. More air time for Carney I say!!!

  • Firstly I want to say Congratulations to 4BC for having the guts to put a single woman in a wheelchair on the airwaves, Carney Liddell is like a breath of fresh air and I hope I am not alone in saying that she needs more air time as her stories on life, love and her dog are hilarious and interesting, I think Peter and her are great together, but with extra air time I bet they could be brilliant..it just goes to show what a master peter dick is as I really wasnt a big fan of Carney with Jamie Dunn, as he spoke over her and clearly does not have the personality to draw out the best in his team and interviewees, with Peter Carney is a talent, and am I right saying that there is not any women on air at present in a full time capacity...time to get with the times 4BC.....also I am a Divorcee and it's fantastic to hear about dating, speed dating and online dating from somebody who is actually out there, all the old men on air are married, we need somebody like her out there telling it like it is! Keep up the good work Peter and Carney!

  • If they are in a speedboat and have a shotgun they should be treated just as everyone else would be in that situation - arrested!
If they are in a hand carved boat and hand carved spears (real tradition), that's acceptable to me as tradition. They can't have it both ways!!
