Forget speed unless it is excessivly dangerous, focus and concentration, elderly drive slow but cautious, young, boys in particular drive fast and take risks that is just natural and a lot of foreigners are just bad inconsiderate and selfisf drivers.

I don't think 5 k over is right. However, speedo error, the width of the speedo needle, momentarily over speed when accelerating affect us all, not just the newest drivers. Wait for the tolerances on speed cameras to drop to 1k after we give the govt. a 'mandate' with our desire for no leeway. I was listening a few weeks ago when it was mooted that there be mandatory driving tests every 5 years when a licence is to be renewed. I didn't recall much support for that. I guess having a licence is more of a right for those of us who already have one rather than having to earn it every few years. Don't say that we're more experienced drivers and therefore better. I am teaching my daughter to drive and it is plainly evident that experience counts for very little, judging by the antics of some. They don't have a coloured plate to identify them (myself included). If we are serious about road safety, then mandatory driving and eye tests every 5 years, zero blood alcohol level for all and unless conditions demand it, fines and demerits for driving under the speed limit. If we're all so good, we must be able to keep the vehicle exactly on the speed limit when not required to slow down. Inability to do so should be grounds for suspension of licence. See what I'm getting at? It would be impossible to maintain. Don't argue that it is safer to drive under the speed limit. Driving, by its' very nature is to transport us from point to point at a reasonable speed, as per the set limits. If driving slower makes you safer, then park and walk and be really safe.
